I want to thank the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly members en bloc for a resolution and adoption dedicating Manila Square in honor of Juneau's Filipino community on Aug. 19. This recognition honors those that have been here in the past and the present. For Filipinos that immigrated from the Philippines and from other states in search of a better life and job in Juneau and throughout Alaska.
They came to Juneau to work for private companies, local, state and federal government, to join the U.S. armed forces, intermarry with Alaskan Natives, brought their families from abroad, raised their families in this community, bought homes/properties, owned businesses, law abiding citizens and are taxpayers. The Filipinos in Juneau continue to grow in numbers and play a vital role in our community and throughout Alaska.
On behalf of the Filipinos in Juneau and various families, we want to thank you for recognizing us.
