Helping Hands sets annual auction

Helping Hands will hold its annual dinner and auction on Aug. 31, 2002. The dinner will start at 5 p.m. and the live auction will begin at 6 p.m. It'll be at 8755 Trinity drive in the Church of Christ. The price for 10 years of age and older is $10. From 6 to 10 years old is $5, and under 6 is free. You can get tickets at the door. Charter school taking applications for opening

Juneau Community Charter School is now accepting 5th and 6th grade student applications to fill an immediate opening. Applications are available at the school, located downtown at Fourth and Harris. This is a public school and charges no tuition. For information on the arts-integrated program and how to apply, contact the school at 586-2526.

The application deadline is Aug. 26, 2002 at 3:30 p.m.

Sept. 11 vigil set

Bishop Michael Warfel invites the community of Juneau to come together on Sept. 11 as a way of remembering the events of a year ago. As a memorial a variety of speakers will give their reflections on what 9/11 has meant to them and how it has affected their lives. The memorial will be held at Centennial Hall beginning at 7 p.m. Along with the memorial the All Faith Vigil for Peace will have a separate room for quiet meditation and prayer.
