Mudball Classic softball transportation - Softball teams and their fans planning to attend the Mudball Classic softball tournament Sept. 2-5 in Sitka should know there will be an Allen Marine charter from Juneau to Sitka that weekend. The boat will leave Juneau at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, and return to Juneau Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $55 per person round trip. Payment is due by Aug. 24. Info: Kelly, 747-4700.
Juneau Parks and Recreation youth indoor soccer registration - Registration for this fall's season takes place from Aug. 13 to Sept. 3 via fax, mail or drop-off. Treadwell Arena schedule - The Treadwell Arena will be opening up with ice on Sept. 6. Beginning Aug. 20, people can sign up for hockey leagues, classes, camps and skating lessons for the fall season. Juneau Adult Hockey Association - JAHA currently is accepting registrations through Friday, Aug. 26, of its fall season starting in September and running through mid-December. JAHA offers leagues based on experience ranging from co-ed introductory to advanced and women's leagues. All play is non-contract and open to players 18-and-up regardless of experience. Juneau box lacrosse practice - Meet from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesdays through the end of August at Treadwell Arena in Douglas to learn about this version of lacrosse that is played inside a hockey rink. NHL greats Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux used to play box lacrosse in the summer and credit the game with sharpening their passing skills. Juneau Women's Golf League - The Juneau Women's Golf League is looking for experience and new players interested in playing golf. The league meets at 6 p.m. every Thursday at the Mendenhall Golf Course. There will be a shotgun start. Golf club rentals are available and cost is $9.45 per round, plus tax. Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19-older. Basketball/volleyball court rentals available - The Juneau Community Schools program has basketball/volleyball court rental times available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
