Soon our summer tourist season will end, and many merchants will close up their shops until next spring. Some of these merchants will hang shades, blinds or other treatments in their windows.
However, in the past, some merchants have closed their stores and left their windows covered with black plastic, plastic bags, newspapers, brown wrapping paper, etc. These latter stores look like they have gone out of business, burned or been condemned. For those of us who are year-round residents, it is depressing to see our downtown in such a state. I have spoken with many people in the borough who feel as I do. So please, merchants, be considerate by keeping our town looking good yearround by putting up nice-looking window coverings when you close this fall.
