Thanks for contributing to libraries' Summer Reading Program

Posted: Sunday, August 23, 2009

The Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries sponsor the Juneau Public Libraries' Summer Reading Program providing funding for programs, printing, crafts and reading incentives. Each year, the Friends receive support from local businesses that donated gift certificates and prizes for a weekly drawing. To participate in this drawing, children wrote reviews of books they read during the summer.

More than 880 book reviews written by kids are displayed at the libraries. Fifty-four gifts or gift certificates were awarded this summer; two weekly at each of the three public libraries. We would like to extend a Thank You to the following local businesses: Alaska Fudge Co., Alaska Shirt Co., Alaska Travel Adventures/zipline tours, Amazing Bookstore, Bear's Lair, Del Sol, Foggy Mountain Shop, Glacier Gardens, Gross-Alaska Theatre, Hearthside Books, Imagination Station, Invisible World, Juneau Rubber Stamp Company, McDonalds of Juneau, Mount Roberts Tram/Goldbelt Corp., Nugget Alaskan Outfitter, Peer Amid Beads, Play-it-again Sports, Rainy Retreat Books and Vicky's Joke Shop.

Thanks also businesses and volunteers who helped us with our summer reading stories, crafts, movies and game nights and advertising: Printing Trade Company, Art Matters, Perseverance Theater's STAR program, the Juneau Raptor Center, KTOO, Juneau Empire, Capital City Weekly, Jeff Brown, Ari Orford and Bethany Bibb.
