ANCHORAGE - A trial is under way in Anchorage for a man charged with first- and second-degree murder in the deaths of two people on New Years Day 2007.
KTUU-TV reports Ryan Sanders acknowledges firing the shots that killed 23-year-old Travis Moore and 17-year-old Ashlee Richards, but he disputes the murder charges.
He told detectives that Moore pistol-whipped him at his Jewel Lake apartment and that he grabbed his own gun and fired at Moore. Moore collapsed outside the front door.
Prosecutors say Sanders grabbed another gun, ran past Moore's body and shot Richards in the street as she fled the apartment.
Sanders' defense says Richards and Moore both wore black coats, Sanders didn't see Moore on the sidewalk in the dark, and that he and mistook Richards for Moore.
