If JPD would park on Diane Road a couple evenings a week, they would make enough money to pay everyone' s wages by giving out speeding tickets to the people driving down Valley Boulevard. If they choose to do this on a Friday or Saturday evening, they will need a bus to transport all the DWIs to Lemon Creek.

Does it not bother anyone else that people drive under the speed limit side-by-side on Glacier Highway?

Why can' t we get live Monday Night Football in this town?

Is it any great wonder who will get a seat and who will stand when the transit begins its route from the cruise ship terminal before moving on to where the locals board the bus?

I can' t believe the locals can' t share the bus system with the tourists. They have at least 10 to 20 seats and you can stand up if there' s a problem. What if you were going on a trip to San Francisco and paid $2,000 to get there and then San Francisco told you that you were not allowed into the trolleys because you were a tourist? Capital Transit is public transportation and the tourists are public.

Regarding a caller' s comment last week, the planes have been flying over Douglas for over 50 years. I was born and raised here, and that' s the way it' s been and no one' s ever complained before except the last couple of years about the noise.

A friend of mine didn' t vote because her polling place is a church that gives her the creeps. So much for the separation of church and state.

Are you intentionally making your classifieds hard to read? I wish you would change back to the old type.

Alaskans are still warm, friendly and hospitable. My friends, neighbors and co-workers are not at each other' s throats. The Juneau Empire is using Word of Mouth just like CBS has used the hit show " Survivor." Those folks are not representative of all Americans and the mean-spirited people who call into Word of Mouth do not represent the city of Juneau. The Empire is doing a disservice to this community by keeping Word of Mouth running just for the ratings. I hope the new management team has the courage to pull the plug and goes back to signed letters to the editor to portray the opinions of this community. The thoughtful people who say anything against Word of Mouth get voted off the island by the malcontents who thrive on it.

What' s up with Harborview School? They haven' t told us what classes our kids are in yet.

Commercial fishing is such an issue right now, why is it every time they have a bad run up north it' s considered a disaster and the fishermen get compensated? In Southeast it' s been one of the biggest disaster runs we' ve had in years. There' s people who are not making money to make payments, much less profits. This is a real disaster season for the Southeast fishermen and I wonder where our politicians are.

I' m calling about road construction and the trucks along the highway. I have a new car that was just dinged in the windshield. I called the owner of the company, who was rude and who said it' s a hazard of the road. I don' t think double trucks with all the wheels and the container on the back are part of a regular road hazard. We need to take a look at what we allow on our roads. He blamed it on construction. It was his trucks.
