John A. Sandor will be recognized as the winner of the Gifford Pinchot Medal from the Society of American Foresters in a special ceremony to be held during the 2007 SAF National Convention, Oct. 23-27, in Portland, Ore.

This award recognizes an SAF member who has made outstanding contributions in the administration, practice and professional development of North American forestry.

Sandor has received several awards, including the Alaska State Conservation Award of the Alaska Wildlife Federation and Sportsmen's Council in 1979; the USDA Superior Service Award in 1983; a Distinguished Service Award from the National Resources and Environmental Section of the American Society of Public Administration in 1987; the Alaska Federation of Natives Denali Award in 1994; and the Forester of the Year Award from the Alaska SAF in 1995. In 1999, he was honored as Juneau's Citizen of the Year.
