Steve Bradshaw, superintendent of the Sitka School District, is the 2010-11 Superintendent of the Year, the Alaska Association of School administrators announced Monday.
Bradshaw has been the superintendent of SSD since 2000, after previously serving as the principal of the district's high school.
Several of Bradshaw's superintendent colleagues pointed to Bradshaw's leadership, dedication to education and passion for students as reasons for his nomination, a release from the AASA states.
Additionally, "he has fostered a wide range of extracurricular activities that has resulted in outstanding performance from students in athletics, music and drama," the release states.
In addition to his duties in Sitka, Bradshaw is currently president of the Alaska Council of School Administrators and is an executive committee member of the Education Northwest Board of Directors.
Bradshaw will now be in the running for the 2011 National Superintendent of the Year, the release states. That award is given in February.
