Signal at crosswalk could save lives

Letter to the editor

I almost hit a man Sunday night around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cordova and Douglas Highway. He wasn't doing anything wrong, just walking from the beach side uphill. He was in the crosswalk. In true Southeast Alaska style, he was wearing gray clothing. Thank the gods the driver behind me was alert or all of us might have ended up in the hospital. We need to have an alert signal that flashes when a pedestrian is in the crosswalk, day and night. Drivers are so focused on other things than driving; maybe a flashing light would save a life.
