Elizabeth "Lib" Berry Maloch

Juneau resident Elizabeth "Lib" Berry Maloch died Aug. 13, 2009, at the Juneau Pioneers' Home. She was 94.

She was born July 12, 1915, in Montgomery, Ala., to Gertrude Bledsoe Berry, of Montgomery, and John Herbert Berry, of Owensboro, Ky.

The family lived in Jackson, Tenn., until 1938, when they moved ot Jackson, Miss. She attended Nazareth Boarding School and graduated from high school and junior college in Nazareth, Ky.

She married James "Jimmie" Maloch in 1943, and they lived there until his death in 1997. They were blessed with two adopted babies, William "Bill" Maloch and Mary E. "Betsy" Truss in 1945 and 1950.

She was active in St. Richards Catholic Church in Jackson. She and her husband supported the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

Her family said it was the love and excellent care at the Juneau Pioneers' Home in Juneau that sustained her.

"Her graciousness, sense of humor and loving manner will be greatly missed," they said. "Lib touched many lives, bringing light and warmth to all her friends and relatives. She leaves lasting and fond memories in their hearts."

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eleanor Easterling; brother, John H. Berry III, who died during World War II; and adopted children, Bill Maloch, in 2006, and Betsy Truss in 2007.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Christy and Trey Truss; son-in-law, Cecil Truss, of Houston; daughter-in-law, Ann Maloch, of Chehalis, Wash.; nephew, Harold Moyer, of Naples, Fla.; and family and friends of Juneau, especially Rita Fischer, Bonnie Elder, Andy and Cindy Rakos, and Ethan Smith.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Juneau Pioneers' Home. A chocolate recpetion will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juneau Pioneers' Home Donated Fund, 4675 Glacier Highway, Juneau AK 99801.
