Empire warns about bogus advertising calls

JUNEAU - It recently came to the attention of the Juneau Empire that someone who erroneously claims to be with the Empire has been making bogus calls regarding advertising.

Juneau residents who receive such calls stating that an ad has been canceled should not give out any information without first verifying the authenticity of the caller. Verifying questions to ask include: How long was my ad scheduled to run; What mailing address do you have on file; What is your direct dial number so that I may call you back?

The Juneau Empire will not call after 5 p.m. or on weekends, and all calls will clearly show the number 907-586-3740 and Juneau Empire in caller ID. Credit card information should never been given out unless the caller has been verified.
