ANCHORAGE - The airport in Sitka is getting $30 million to extend its runway.

The runway at Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport does not meet FAA standards and needs to be extended. The airport allocation is nearly half of the total amount announced Tuesday for upgrades at numerous airports across the state.

More than $20 million is being awarded to Chefornak to construct a replacement airport for that community. Its current airport does not meet minimum FAA standards.

The Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is receiving a half-million dollars to conduct a program to reduce noise from the airport.

Money also is going to Soldotna, Deadhorse, the North Slope Borough and various other communities for airport improvements.
