JUNEAU - High school student Carl Brodersen, whose Juneau School Board candidacy application was held pending his voter status last week, has been certified to run in the Oct. 1 municipal election.
Attorney Sheldon Winters, whose application also was held last week until he filed the appropriate paperwork with the Alaska Public Offices Commission, did not file the paperwork within the four-day period required by state law, and was not certified to run, according to City Clerk Lori Sica. Winters had a death in his family last week.
"He had extenuating family circumstances that didn't allow him get that taken care of," Sica said.
There are eight candidates running for two open school board seats vacated by Carolyn Spalding and Deana Darnall.
