Former Juneau-Douglas High School basketball standout - and current Olympian - Carlos Boozer will return to Juneau next month for an afternoon of hoops-related activities.
The "Welcome Back from the Olympics" event for Boozer will be held on Thursday, Sept. 9, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at the Safeway parking lot off of Vintage Blvd. It is sponsored by Coca-Cola, Safeway and Alaska Airlines.
Boozer will autograph complimentary T-shirts, mini basketballs and posters, and a basketball court will be set up in the lot for games throughout the afternoon. Books will be distributed to kids in conjunction with the national Reading is Fundamental campaign.
Hot dogs and soda will be sold during the afternoon, with proceeds benefiting Juneau charities. Carlos Boozer collector Sprite cans will also be available.
Boozer and the U.S. men's Olympic basketball team play Spain today in the medal round of the Olympics in Athens, Greece. Boozer is a 1999 graduate of JDHS, and he will play for the Utah Jazz in the upcoming NBA season.
