Juneau police, fire officials and state troopers reported:

Domestic violence:

• Police arrested a man, 38, on a charge of domestic-violence assault at 5:17 p.m. Wednesday downtown. They lodged him at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.


• A mailbox was reported smashed at 2:27 p.m. Wednesday in the 4200 block of Mendenhall Boulevard.

• At 2:54 p.m. Wednesday, the side window of a business in the 100 block of Franklin Street was reported smashed. Damage was estimated at $990.

• Graffiti was reported on a garage door at 9:12 a.m. Thursday in the 900 block of Glacier Avenue.

Vehicle accidents:

• Police cited a woman, 24, on a charge of failing to maintain a safe distance in traffic after an accident at 2:11 p.m. Wednesday. She was driving a 1994 Mazda that reportedly struck a 1997 Ford in the rear. Damage to the Ford, driven by a woman, 22, was estimated at $2,000. Damage to the Mazda was estimated at $5,000.

• Police cited a man, 25, on a charge of speeding after an accident at 10:29 a.m. Thursday in the 3700 block of North Douglas Highway. The man was checked by medical personnel at the scene after reportedly losing control of a 2003 Honda that went into a ditch. Damage was estimated at $3,000.

Hit and run:

• At 7:45 a.m. Thursday, a woman reported her 2000 Dodge Neon was struck in the rear at Mendenhall Loop and Mendenhall Mall roads by a silver two-door vehicle driven by a man who left the scene without exchanging information.

Underage drinking:

• At 11:17 p.m. Wednesday, police cited a girl, 17, on a charge of underage drinking and a man, 21, on a charge of furnishing alcohol to a minor on Whittier Street.

Animal encounters:

• At 5:54 a.m. Thursday, a bear was reported to have been in the arctic entry of a residence in the 400 block of Fifth Street in the Douglas area. Bear sightings were also reported at 2:33 p.m. Wednesday in the 8100 block of Snipe Court and at 12:37 a.m. Thursday in the 9900 block of Stephen Richards Memorial Drive, both in the Mendenhall Valley.
