Eight Juneau equestrians traveled to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, last month to compete in the Yukon Horse and Rider Association's 23rd annual Summer Horse Show.
The event, held July 19-21, featured 93 events covering halter, dressage, jumping, Western, English and Gymkhana. In addition to the Juneau contigent, five of whom were members of the Thunder Mountain 4-H Club, there were horses and riders from Whitehorse, Dawson City, Yukon Territory, and Atlin, British Columbia.
The following are the Juneau riders' results:
Halter (eight classes) - Bonnie Fitzjarrald, riding Jets Hi Tide, won first in registered geldings (age 3 and older); Brianna Tragis, Zippos Holy Smoke, second place, registered mares (age 3 and older); Heather Bennett, S.A. Mystery Man, third place, ponies and miniatures (all ages); and Elena Ruddy, Poco Dust Bandit, reserve, registered geldings (age 3 and older).
Dressage (11 classes) - Heather Bennett, S.A. Mystery Man, second place, Yukon Elementary Dressage Test (Walk/Trot).
English/Jumping (47 classes) - Sivanna Kirkpatrick, Cross E Dry Smoke, second place, Hunter Pleasure Under Saddle (Maiden).
Western/Gymkhana (27 classes) - Stefanie Messerschmidt, Cross E Dry Smoke, first place, Stock Seat Equitation (Senior); first, Western Horsemanship (Senior); second, Western Pleasure (Maiden); fifth, Reining (Green as Grass).
