JDHS spikers head to preseason warmup meet at Ketchikan
The Juneau-Douglas High School volleyball squad is in Ketchikan today and Saturday for the annual Jamboree, a final preseason warmup for Southeast squads.
The Crimson Bears will join host Kayhi at the meet, along with squads from Sitka, Haines, Metlakatla, Wrangell and Craig. No stats are kept at the Jamboree, where teams are able to test skills and lineups and get match experience before the regular season begins.
Juneau is coming off a 2003 season which saw a young varsity squad win the Region V-Class 4A title and finish fifth at state. That team featured a large group of first-year varsity players, who return in 2004 as varsity veterans.
The Crimson Bears open the regular season at home next weekend with Region V matches against Ketchikan. A full season preview will run in the Empire next week.
