Alaska State Hi-Power Rifle Championship - The Alaska State 200-300 yard High Power Rifle Championship will take place 9 a.m. Sunday at the H.Harmon Rifle Range on Montana Creek Road. Sign-up and set-up is 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. with a safety meeting at 9:15 a.m. First shot is 9:30 a.m. Hunter rifles are welcome but without scopes can compete for awards. Puttin' for Paws Charity Disc Golf Tournament - The annual Puttin' for Paws Charity Disc Golf Tournament takes place Sunday, Sept. 10. at Aant'iyeik Park Disc Golf Course in Auke Bay. The open division registration is at 9:30 a.m. and costs $25 for 36 holes. The winner earns 25 percent of the purse. The amateur division registration is at 12:30 p.m. and costs $10 for 18 holes. Juneau Parks and Recreation Volleyball managers meeting - A Juneau Parks and Recreation men's and women's volleyball managers meeting will take place Thursday, Aug. 31, at 6 p.m. at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Indoor Soccer Registration - The Juneau Parks and Recreation indoor soccer registration will continue through Sept. 1 at the Parks and Recreation office. Start Smart Program - The Start Smart Sports Development Program is for boys and girls ages 4-5 to prepare them for organized sports without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Parents work with their child to learn basic skills such as throwing, catching, kicking and batting for sports like soccer, baseball, etc. It is a six-week program, one hour per week on Saturdays at Mt. Jumbo Gym from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. running from Oct. 14 to Nov. 18. Fee is $25 and each child will receive a t-shirt, workbook and a participant manual. Register at www.juneau.org/parksrec. Co-ed Master's Soccer League - The Co-Ed Master's Soccer League is for experienced men and women soccer players over the age of 30. There will be no formal teams and no referees. Field time is for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. There will be an outdoor training session starting on Aug. 27. Games will be played Sundays at the Adair-Kennedy Memorial park. Cost is $20. Football officials needed - The Juneau-Douglas Officials Association is looking for individuals to be football officials. Officiating is a great way to not just watch the games, but to become an active participant in them. Women's Classic Soccer League - The Women's Classic Soccer League, sponsored by the Capital City Soccer League, will start in early July. Juneau Women's Golf League - The Juneau Women's Golf League is looking for women interested in playing golf. No prior experience is necessary to participate. Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19-older. Basketball/volleyball court rentals available - The Juneau Community Schools program has basketball/volleyball court rental times available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
