Many friends and family members gathered to celebrate the life of Wahto, a U.S. Army sergeant in the 1st Special Service Force, known as "The Devil's Brigade," in World War II. He received many battle medals, including a Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal. Wahto was fighting in Europe when Germany surrendered on VE-Day, May 8, 1945. He died Aug. 19.
