One for the good guys: Six lives saved

Posted: Monday, August 27, 2007

First of all, my family and I would like to thank Sgt. Paul Hatch and his fellow Juneau Police Department officers for keeping our community safe.

Sound off on the important issues at

It's a shame that a life was taken, but as I see it, six lives were saved. Who knows what could have happened if Randall Clevenger wasn't shot. He put everyone's life in jeopardy that night. Sunday's article about Clevenger was disheartening. He made several threats toward his ex-wife, children and ex-girlfriend, all mentioning he would kill them. Why would they say he would never hurt anyone? It was just a matter of time before he followed through with those threats. Clevenger was just a ticking time bomb ready to go off. Unfortunately he made someone else responsible for taking his life.

For all those people who say the officer shouldn't have used deadly force - that was not his choice. Clevenger made the choice for him. Hatch was protecting himself and the community. Again we would like to thank JPD officers for protecting us and our community.
