ANCHORAGE - Federal drug charges have been filed against a man whose name surfaced in a high-profile killing outside an Anchorage sporting goods store.
Court documents unsealed Tuesday show 39-year-old Naron Celestine has been accused of distributing more than 500 grams of cocaine. The Anchorage Daily News reports he was arrested last week and pleaded not guilty.
There is no specific reference in the documents to the June shooting that left 23-year-old Joe Young Jr. dead. Celestine surfaced in the investigation as the man whose expensive necklace Young allegedly stole in May.
Court documents say the word on the street was that Celestine put a $10,000 hit on Young in retaliation for the theft, but Assistant District Attonrey John Skidmore says that's difficult to prove.
Three men have been charged in Young's death.
