...for the help and support

Juneau Public Health Center and Vaccinate Juneau Kids Coalition would like to thank the more than 50 volunteers; nurses who gave shots, recorders, clowns and volunteers that participated in the Aug. 17 Super Shot Saturday at Valley Medical Clinic. We saw 186 children plus parents and administered 371 vaccinations in four hours.

In addition to the time and energy put in by all the volunteers, we greatly appreciate the businesses that donated nourishment and door prizes. Our heartfelt thank you goes to Heritage Coffee Company, Pizza Hut, Pepsi Cola Bottling Co., Bullwinkles Pizza, Fiddlehead, Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Rick's Café, Breeze Inn, Broiler Restaurant, Nugget Alaskan Outfitter, Shear Design, Susan's Hallmark, Vintage Fare, Rie Munoz, Mark Kelly Photography, 7th Heaven, Northern Sales Co. of Alaska, and April Carpenter Fine Jewelry.

Thanks to Valley Medical Clinic and staff for the use of their clinic on a Saturday and Dr. Bursell's office for allowing us to hang our banner from your window. Thank you KINY radio for air time to discuss the importance of vaccinations and the event.

The children and parents were very happy to have the best clowns in town, "Juneau Joeys," to keep everyone entertained throughout the day!

Thank you Juneau for keeping your children healthy!

...for your support.

The Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries and the library staff would like to express appreciation to Juneau businesses for their support of the 2002 Summer Reading Program, "The Daring Days of Reading." Focusing on books about many different kinds of kindness and bravery, children were introduced to courageous characters in history, fiction and fantasy. More than 1,000 of Juneau's youngsters enjoyed weekly Storytimes with Crafts and Toddler Times. A group of older children engaged in an evening Chapter Book Club on the same theme. The Reading Game offered prizes for each five days of reading, and young readers in Juneau collectively read over 4,000 days in 10 weeks. In addition, each time a young person borrowed books from the library, they were eligible to participate in the weekly drawing of prizes. About 1,950 drawing slips were counted, and 41 were awarded prizes donated by the following local businesses:

Amazing Book Store; Alaska Fudge Co.; The Art Department; Domino's Pizza; Fred Meyer; Glacier Gardens; Goldbelt; Gross-Alaska; Hickok's Trading Co.; Juneau Trolley Car; Latitude 58; McDonald's; Nugget Alaskan Outfitter; Temsco Helicopters; and Timberwolf.

Also, the following people and places donated time, effort and materials: Trevor Harding; Robin Garber-Slaght; Jim Sinard; Marcia Phillips; Juneau co-op preschool; Juneau Empire; Capital City Weekly; Jeff Brown & "We Like Kids" program at KTOO.

Thank you all for your generous support of the children of Juneau. We couldn't do this without you!
