The new Builders Plaza is holding a grand opening celebration Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The building behind Valley Lumber on Crest Avenue brings together a number of construction businesses under one roof, including Speedy Glass, Van Pool Painting, Oliver's Trophies and Engraving, Superior Builder's Inc., Tim's Wood Works, the Home Builders Association, and architect Tom Huntington.
Kelly Stephens, president of Superior Builders, came up with the idea about two years ago.
"I wanted to bring it all together, to make it easier on people wanting to do renovation projects, wanting to do building projects," Stephens said. "Combining all these resources together in one building will make it easier for people to stop by on their lunch hour."
He built the 17,600-square-foot building with the needs of tradespeople in mind, creating space for retail space, showrooms and offices up front, and larger work spaces in the back. A penthouse apartment will be Stephens home and a showroom for Superior Builders.
"It's what I call a living work of art," Stephens said. "It's something that I've put all my resources together to create."
All but 1,000 square feet of office space has been rented out already, Stephens said. Now he's making plans for phase two, a smaller building based on the same concept, but with an elevator, self-storage units and a penthouse apartment for his parents, who started Superior Builders.
The grand opening celebration will include food, a prize drawing and tours.
