Police and Fire

Juneau police, fire officials and state troopers reported:


• Police arrested a woman, 23, for domestic violence assault at 7:31 p.m. Wednesday in the downtown area. Police believe alcohol was a factor. She was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.


• An orange mountain bike was reported stolen at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday from a residence near West 12th Street.

• CDs and a DVD were reported stolen at 9:47 a.m. Wednesday from an unlocked vehicle near Sherri Street.

• A Nokia cell phone was reported stolen at 10:26 a.m. Wednesday near Riverside Drive.

Vandalism and criminal mischief:

• About $200 worth of damage to a Melvin Park rest room from spray paint was reported at 7:55 a.m. Wednesday.

• A mailbox was reported vandalized at 11:57 a.m. Wednesday near Thane Road. Damage is estimated to be $30. The vandalism occurred Aug. 14.

• An unknown person who drove a truck into a new picnic shelter and attempted to drive over a picnic table and chairs near Montana Creek Road caused about $50 worth of damage. The incident was reported at 12:22 p.m. Wednesday.

Vehicle accidents:

• No one was injured during a one-vehicle accident at 12:21 p.m. Wednesday near Vanderbilt Hill Road. Police cited the 16-year-old male driver of a pickup truck that struck a guardrail. The truck sustained $1,500 in damage. Police cited the boy for careless driving.

• Police cited a girl, 17, for unsafe turning following a two-vehicle accident at 12:43 p.m. Wednesday near outbound Egan Drive and the National Guard armory.

A silver Toyota, driven by the girl, struck a white bus. No one was injured. The Toyota sustained $2,500 in damage, and the bus sustained $1,000.

• A boy wasn't injured when he was struck by a truck, driven by a woman, 20, at 1:34 p.m. Wednesday near Mendenhall Loop Road. The boy, whose age wasn't given, rode his bike in front of the truck. He left the area following the accident. The truck sustained $50 in damage.

Animal encounters:

• Bears were reported Wednesday at 2:44 p.m. near Glacier Highway, 2:45 p.m. near Glacier Highway in Lemon Creek, 2:47 p.m. near Glacier Highway in Lemon Creek, 3:06 p.m. near Renninger Street, and 10:43 p.m. near Foster Avenue.

• Bears were reported today at 1:06 a.m. near Fourth Street and Seward Street and 1:42 a.m. near Glacier Avenue.
