Eagles vs. Ravens open house set for Thursday

JUNEAU - The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium Eagles vs. Ravens Wellness Challenge will host an open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at the SEARHC Juneau Health Promotion Office, 3245 Hospital Drive, lower floor.

The open house will give 2007 Eagles vs. Ravens participants a chance to meet SEARHC Juneau Health Promotion staff, and learn about various services and programs available through SEARHC.

In addition to Juneau Health Promotion, other SEARHC departments will be represented, such as dental, behavioral health and the WIC (Women, Infants, Children) nutrition program. Doug Osborne from SEARHC Health Promotion in Sitka also will be available to discuss workplace wellness. Biometric screenings (blood pressure, total cholesterol, HDL and glucose) will be available, and light snacks will be provided.

Eagles vs. Ravens Wellness Challenge participants who attend the open house and receive a biometric screening will earn 100 points. The 2007 Eagles vs. Ravens Wellness Challenge started on Aug. 1 and ends Sept. 30. It's an eight-week program where Juneau residents compete as individuals, small teams and/or for their respective moieties. Participants earn points for physical activity and other wellness activities, such as quitting tobacco, improving their nutrition, getting annual check-ups, reducing their stress, mentoring, or for taking part in or attending various community and cultural events.

"This will be a chance to meet and greet our staff and others," said Alan Travasso, SEARHC Juneau Health Promotion Manager. "It's a good time to get Eagles vs. Ravens t-shirts, for those people who haven't already received them, and to have a good time with our staff. We can talk about the Eagles vs. Ravens Wellness Challenge, take feedback about the program so far, and discuss wellness in general."
