Dinner, auction for Helping Hands

Helping Hands will host its annual buffet dinner and auction Sept. 9 at the Church of God Glacier Valley, 8497 Thunder Mountain Road.

The dinner starts at 5 p.m. and the auction at 6 p.m. The menu is ham, potatoes, gravy, vegetables, dinner rolls and pie. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youths ages 10-16, and free for those under 10.

Items for the auction, which are tax-deductible, are still being sought.

Pet adoption program for seniors offered

A program offering $50 toward the adoption of a pet for seniors is being offered through the end of September by the Gastineau Humane Society.

The funding is provided through the Purina Pets for People Program.

Adoption fees cover spaying or neutering a pet, necessary shots for a year, and other supplies.

Fall job fair seminars start this week

The fall Juneau Job Fair is scheduled Oct. 21 at the Nugget Mall. A planning committee meeting to discuss the event is scheduled at 3 p.m. Friday in the third floor conference roomof the Juneau Empire building at 3100 Channel Drive. Subsequent meetings will be held on Thursdays.

Employers wanting to make reservations at the job fair should call 465-2987 for more information.

JDHS parent meeting

The first high school parent discussion group meeting for this school year is scheduled for noon on Sept. 12 at the Juneau-Douglas High School library. Deb Morse, newly appointed principal of JDHS, will be the guest speaker.

All parents of high school students are invited to attend. Participants may park in the lot behind the Alaska Marine Highway office.
