Rudy and Judy Ripley of Juneau will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 1, 2006.
They were married in 1956 at Juneau's Resurrection Lutheran Church. They met in 1952, when Judy was a cheerleader for the Douglas High School Huskies and Rudy was a cheerleader for the Juneau High School Crimson Bears. Judy was 18 when they married; Rudy was 21.
After their wedding, they moved to Los Angeles, where Rudy attended Art Center. He graduated in 1958, and the couple drove their 1957 Renault up the Alaska Highway when the road was under heavy reconstruction. They have lived in Juneau ever since, where they operated a sign and printing business, Commercial Art, for 35 years. They sold the business in 1997 and have spent much of their retirement cruising the waters of Southeast Alaska in their 36-foot Uniflite and running their riverboat up the Taku River, where they own a cabin.
