Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears football vs. Lathrop Malemutes: 7 p.m. at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park.

Saturday, Sept. 2

Beat the Odds: A Women's Race Against Breast Cancer: 5-kilometer run, 2-mile walk beginning at 9 a.m. at Mendenhall River School. Cost $15 age 14 and up; $10 under 13. Register at Foggy Mountain Shop or either Juneau Racquet Club. Info: George Elgee, 789-3178.

Prostate Cancer Run/Walk: 5-kilometer run, 2-mile walk beginning at 8 a.m. at Mendenhall River School. Cost $12 for adults; $8 for kids 12 and under. Juneau Sailing Club's 2000 Rum Cup Challenge, 4th round: Race from Juneau to Taku Harbor on Saturday, a lay-day on Sunday with dock games and barbecues and Taku Harbor back to Juneau on Monday. All sailboats invited (you do not have to be a member of Juneau Sailing Club to participate and previous racing experience not necessary). Skippers meet at Juneau Harbormaster's Office at Aurora Harbor at 8 a.m. day of race. Info: 586-2848.

Open Gyms

Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School: Youth open gym (grades 5-12) free. Saturday, 8/26, and Saturday, 9/9 from 8-11 p.m. Saturday, 9/2, TBA. Adult volleyball/basketball open gyms, cost is $4. Sundays, 8/27, 9/3, 9/10 and 9/17. Fridays, 9/8, 9/15 and 9/22. All times from 7-9 p.m. Volleyball/basketball court rentals available Saturday mornings. Info: Community Schools, 463-1700, ext. 325.

Open Badminton Gym: Every Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Gastineau School from Sept. 8 until Oct. 13. All skill levels welcome. Cost $2.50 per person; $5 for families. Info: David, 586-3070 eves.


Juneau Youth Wrestling Club registration: Thursday, Sept. 7 and 14th from 6-7:30 p.m. at 8345 Old Dairy Road. This club is for youth ages 5-16 who would like to learn or improve wrestling skills and have fun. Bring copy of birth certificate. Cost $50. Financial assistance available. Adult volleyball officials needed for Juneau Parks and Recreation men's and women's 2000 season. Officials paid $9.18 per match. League play begins Sept. 15. Info: Parks and Recreation, 586-5226.

Aqua aerobics classes at Augustus Brown Pool. Begins Aug. 28 and runs from 10:30-11:14 a.m. Also beginning Aug. 28, the Aqua Stretch class will move to Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:15 a.m. to noon.
