"There is no doubt about it. Prices are going to go up," Kirk Duncan, general manager, said.

Early-bird passes will be either $349 or $399, up from $299 last year. A day pass could remain at $34 or be bumped up to $35, he said.

The amount of any rate increases will be determined by the Eaglecrest Board on Tuesday.

Driving the rate increase is a desire to have a reserve fund for the city-owned ski area.

"Now we have no reserve," Duncan said.

Duncan said other city-owned operations have millions of dollars of reserves. Eaglecrest has operated at a slight loss in the past, and Duncan said those overseeing the area hoped to build a reserve of $500,000 to $1 million for development opportunities or low-snow years.

"We're not padding our pockets," he said.

Additionally, inflation-driven pay increases and the rising cost of diesel fuel to operate the lifts account for the increase, Duncan said.
