Michigan boy visits doctor in Alaska

KENAI - Kevin Hertz took a long trip to see his favorite doctor.

The 14-year-old boy from Sterling Heights, Mich., has battled brain tumors since he was 3 years old. During the first eight years of his fight, he established a rapport with pediatric oncologist Merlin Hamry.

Then Hamry moved to the Kenai Peninsula, devastating the boy and his family.

Before leaving for Alaska, Hamry told Kevin to come for a visit someday.

Thanks to Benefit 4 Kids, Kevin and the doctor recently went fishing together on the Kenai River. The nonprofit organization grants outdoor wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.
