Teachers hired for extra enrollment

Posted: Sunday, September 01, 2002

Five thousand six hundred and thirty-three students showed up to Juneau public schools on the first day of classes Wednesday, about 230 more than were projected, school district officials said.

Three teachers were hired to accommodate slightly larger classes at Floyd Dryden Middle School, Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School and Auke Bay Elementary, said schools Superintendent Gary Bader.

The middle schools had more seventh graders than projected, principals Les Morse and Tom Milliron said. Milliron, principal at Floyd Dryden, said the school also had more sixth graders than anticipated.
