Ketchikan Charter school contract approved
The Ketchikan School Board approved a three-year contract with the Ketchikan Charter School on Wednesday, Aug. 28. The approval is contingent on receipt and board approval of the school's academic goals and achievement levels.
Action on the contract was postponed during the board's Aug. 14 meeting because members had questions and concerns about the contract.
Some board members met in a work session last week with charter school representatives to discuss those concerns, and both sides agreed to some language changes in the contract. In addition, the board expressed its intent to approve the contract temporarily, pending receipt of the school's academic goals.
The charter school plans to adopt goals after the school year begins this week to allow teacher input. During the work session, charter school representatives indicated they did not have time to gather teacher input before the end of the 2001-02 school year, in part because the state Board of Education and Early Development delayed approval of the charter until after the school year ended.
