Tenakee Springs resident Bill Patch, 65, died Aug. 26, 2004, in Juneau after a cancer-related illness.
He was born March 26, 1939, in Tehachapi, Calif., to William Z. and Elsie Patch. After serving in the U. S. Armed Forces in Korea and Europe, he spent much of his life in business with his wife as a long-haul trucker. He spent summers and holidays in the island community of Tenakee Springs, where there are no roads or automobiles. His hobbies included fishing and tasks most people would shy away from.
His family said he always had time to befriend people no matter where he was. "Bill was one of the most wonderful, friendly and generous persons I knew," they said.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, and family in California, Washington and Alaska.
According to his wishes, there will be no funeral services. At a later date, his ashes will be spread near Tenakee Springs.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Home Care of Juneau, 419 Sixth Street, Juneau, AK 99801, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
