ANCHORAGE - Alaskans will be able to get a rebate on the purchase of energy efficient appliances, but the program won't be available for several months.
The program paid for with federal stimulus money is sort of like Cash for Clunkers. The intent is to boost consumer spending while encouraging the use of more energy-efficient appliances.
States have until mid-October to submit plans for their rebate programs to the Department of Energy.
Alaska has yet to submit its plan about which appliances to cover, and how big of a rebate to offer.
