FAIRBANKS - A Fairbanks man who admitted to seven years of sexual abuse has been given a 50-year prison term.

KTVF-TV reports that Superior Court Judge Paul Lyle sentenced 39-year-old Joseph Turney on Monday for his earlier guilty pleas to sexual abuse of a minor and sexual assault.

The guilty pleas entered in February consolidated 20 charges. The man also was accused of fathering a child during the abuse.

Turney had no criminal history before his January 2009 arrest. He worked as a school bus driver and was suspended after his arrest. The bus company says it had received no complaints about him.
