JUNEAU - A one-car accident in Kake injured four teenagers Thursday night.

Cassandra Martin, 18, had to be airlifted to Sitka for deep cuts to her head. By Saturday morning the doctors had ruled out a possible skull fracture and Martin was doing better, said her mother, Cindy Martin.

"She's going to take a while to heal," Cindy Martin said. "But she was supposed to leave for college actually this morning and we're going to have to put that off for a while, maybe next semester."

Cassandra Martin was in the back passenger seat of the Ford Explorer when it ran off the road at Portage Hill in Kake, said Officer Matthew Brown, who is investigating the accident.

The boy driving the car came out of the accident with a sore back. Another boy broke his wrist and another girl needed a few stitches.

Alcohol is not suspected at this time, Brown said. He does believe the car was going faster than the 30 mph speed limit.
