6-year-old boy dies in accidental shooting

ANCHORAGE - A 6-year-old boy died this week in the western Alaska village of Akiak after a 7-year-old boy accidentally shot him with a high-powered rifle, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers said the boys found the weapon in an abandoned house Sunday evening. Troopers said the older boy was holding the rifle when it went off.

The names of the children have not been released.

Troopers said they are continuing to investigate.
