JUNEAU - The city of Juneau was recognized last month by the nonprofit KaBOOM as one of 118 "playful cities" accross the United States.
Juneau was selected for "its outstanding dedication to play" and the only community in Alaska to receive the designation.
To celebrate this honor, the CBJ Parks and Recreation department is putting together at a day of play Saturday, Sept. 25. In an effort to encourage children and families to get outdoors, free activities will be scheduled throughout the day at all Juneau Parks and Recreation facilities. Additionally, the City Museum will offer a few "old fashioned" craft activities from 2-4 p.m.
Playful City USA is a national recognition program honoring cities and towns determined to prioritize play and ensure children have opportunities to engage in activities. This is the fourth year of the annual program, but the first year Juneau was included as one of the honorees.
