A release posted on Thursday stated one was a sow that appeared to have been killed and mutilated. The other bear appeared to have been shot. Troopers responded to these incidents on Aug. 25 and Aug. 28, respectively.

According to the release, it did not appear as if the bears were threatening life when they were killed and there were no defense of life or liberty reports turned into the Alaska Department of Fish & Game.

Also, the hides and skulls were not salvaged.
