Title and firm: Anli-Mu Kastien, owner and sole proprietor of Anli's, a downtown consignment clothing store.
Services: The women's clothing in Kastien's store is modern and in good condition, she said, and she will not accept less.
"Some people they come in and they drop off just anything," she said. "But I call them and say 'lady, please.' We only want modern clothes that were bought recently."
Kastien said when people bring clothing in for her to sell they receive 50 percent of the ticket price. She said people can pick up their profits on the last day of the month.
She said she wants to provide a place where people get a good deal for the clothing they no longer need. She also said she enjoys helping people feel good about themselves with the skirts, dresses, coats and accessories she carries.
Quotable: "I want to show people what I learned as a model and help them look pretty and wear nice things. You should feel good. Life is too short not to," Kastien said.
Background: Kastien was born and raised in southcentral China. She began a competitive swimming career at the age of 14, winning five national gold medals. As an adult she moved onto a modeling career, she said, which allowed her to travel to several countries. She said on a trip to Russia she met her husband Wayne, who is a liaison for the Coast Guard.
Once they were married they began to move once every two years as he was transferred, ending up in Juneau last year.
Kastien said she opened her store in May to keep her busy and because she missed her job as a model.
In addition to the consignment store, Kastien is writing an autobiography about her championship swimming career in China.
She also teaches private swimming lessons locally and does calligraphy.
Family: Kastien has been married to her husband for six years. They have two sons, Michael, 14, and Andrei, 5, and a daughter Lisa, 3.
Contact information: Anli's is located at 217 Seward St. For more information contact Kastien at (907) 586-3558.
