Badd Dog Blues Society comes to Marlintini's Lounge
JUNEAU - Since Andy Koch formed the Badd Dog Blues Society in Bellingham, Wash., in 1995, his rotating cast of players has expanded to include some of the top blues players in northwest Washington state.
The group plays Marlintini's Lounge at 9 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 4 to 6. There's no cover charge Thursday. Cost is $5 on Friday and Saturday.
Bad Dogg plays widely in Bellingham. Koch, singer and harmonica player, books music for the Wild Buffalo, one of the town's top clubs. Blues and open mike nights are usually crowded.
Koch has performed with or opened for Jefferson Starship, Bonnie Raitt, Lee Oskar and Swamp Mama Johnson. The Society includes more than 50 past and present members.
Silverbow gets ready for 'Belly Fusion'
JUNEAU - Reservations are expected to fill up quickly for "Belly Fusion: An Evening of Middle Eastern Flavors, Rhythms and Motions," 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at The Back Room at the Silverbow.
The night includes dinner and a combination of Egyptian cabaret style and American tribal belly-dancing to live drumming and canned music. The show will include at least eight dancers and at least three or four percussionists.
"We're American women. We're people who like to have fun, and we like to dance," said dancer Heather Gurewitz. "Even though a lot of the moves and a lot of the things we do are derivative of different places in the Middle East, Spain or India, we're not trying to be authentic."
The dancers include members of Daughters of the New Moon and Patshiva, but this is not a troupe night, Gurewitz said.
"It's always a lot of fun and the crowd that shows up is really into it," Gurewitz said. "It's all about having fun and enjoying being a woman."
The Silverbow hosted a similar night in February, "Rocking the Casbah," and it sold out.
The cost is $34.50. For more information or reservations, call the Silverbow at 586-4146. February's performance ended by 9:30 p.m.
