Judge invalidates marriage of man accused of murder

ANCHORAGE - The marriage of a man charged with murder to a woman who was on the witness list for his trial has been invalidated by a federal judge.

The Anchorage Daily News reported Judge Ralph Beistline ruled that Joshua Wade's marriage to Lisa Andrews wasn't legal because it was conducted over the phone.

Alaska law requires couples getting married to be in the presence of each other.

Federal prosecutors have said the marriage was a sham, intended to keep the 46-year-old Andrews from testifying against the 29-year-old Wade.

He's accused of torturing and killing a neighbor, nurse Mindy Schloss. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Schloss disappeared in August 2007. Her body was found the following month in a wooded area in Wasilla.
