Title and firm: owner, Kimberly's and Kelly's
Services: Kimberly's is a full service hair salon which specializes in color and aesthetics. They carry an extensive line of skin care products from France, and have a state of the art pedicure chair.
Biographical info: Steadman, 32, was born in Seattle. She moved to Juneau by herself in 1986 at the age of 18, and worked at a variety of jobs, including a music store on Franklin Streeet and a position at REACH. She returned to Seattle in 19911and attended Gene Juarez, a beauty and hair academy. After graduating, she came back to Juneau and opened Pro Styles Hair Academy and Salon, which graduated ten students "that are actually working in the hair industry today successfully. I was the youngest one in the state of Alaska to have a hair academy."
However, after a 1997 divorce Steadman "needed to downsize". She closed Pro Styles and opened Kimberly's. "It's a nice studio," she said. "We have a view of the glacier when you get your hair cut. It's beautiful up here." In her time away from work, she enjoys hiking and fishing, and loves to hunt.
Family: Steadman is engaged to be married next year.
Notable: Steadman calls said skin care line "the best (she's) ever seen." Made in France and already number one in Australia, it uses sea products -- including crab -- for maximum effectiveness in detoxing skin and reducing the apperance of fine lines. "It's pretty exciting, because your skin looks better," Steadman said. "With no place in Juneau to buy cosmetics right now, it's going over pretty well."
Quotable: "Juneau is so wet and cold and everything, and we don't get any natural sunlight, so I love to design color work for people and brighten up their hair and face. We just like to pamper people up here."
Employees: Kimberly's doesn't have employees; rather, independent leasers with their own business licenses work with Steadman.
Contact information: Call 789-WAVE or stop by the shop at 2525 Industrial Blvd., C #1. Kimberly's is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and by appointment on Saturday.
