You blew it! Your editorial on helicopters and flightseeing was filled with erroneous information. Seventy percent of local residents voted against the measure to limit flight seeing last fall. Many thought the measure went too far. You stated the "no" vote was a voice of support for the flightseeing industry. Hardly! I voted against it. I do not support expansion of this industry; rather I support substantial cutting back.
Then in large print you wrote, "Helicopter tours enable people of all ages and physical abilities to see one of the great wonders of the world in a safe, ecologically sound way." That one is pure malarkey. When you print this, please place the word "Malarkey" in large print. Helicopter tours enable wealthy people to see one of the great wonders at the expense of those who came by bus to observe the quiet beauty. I chose to live near the glacier and have done so for 28 years. I walk on trails by the glacier or on the trail by the Mendenhall River every day. I can tell you the ever-increasing over-flight noise is very upsetting to me. It is upsetting to many people. And some idiot thinks it's not upsetting to the wildlife, too.
Thank you for the reminder to send written comments to the Forest Service.
No thank you for the biased editorial.
