I believe the problem for our economy is that we are importing more goods and exporting fewer goods.
The dollar was strong in the 1960s and '70s because we had big companies like Ford, Chrysler, Chevrolet, our own mines, our own gas and oil, clothing lines such as Nike, Levi and I could go on.
Then in the late '70s we decided to tax our exports and our companies with huge amounts of money, and our companies went to Mexico, Europe, China and South America. What do we export now? We need to export more than we import to keep United States strong. We send our money and earnings to other countries so now we are going in debt.
If we do as Sen. Barack Obama suggests, and tax the rich, we will lose more income coming into our country. More companies will leave and so will the rich.
Gov. Sarah Palin is right. We need to depend less on other countries and get back to where they depend on us. Right now our economy is depending on tourism, wheat and corn. If there is anything else, let me know what we are exporting and not importing.
We take care of other countries and their medical and food needs, but we need to make money and keep companies here so that we can continue helping others everywhere. Make laws that say if environmentalists do not win a case after two court hearings then a project gets to go through. Enough of this litigation going on for years and keeping us from moving forward - it is costing us more money then what we are making.
I have nothing against environmentalists if what they are doing is not going to hurt the people in the long run. Time to put food on the serving spoon, for it is gone.
