Armed man arrested at Fort Wainwright

FAIRBANKS - An armed man caused portions of the Fort Wainwright Army post in Fairbanks to be locked down Friday.

A base spokeswoman says the man was arrested. No other details were immediately available.

A Fairbanks North Star Borough School District spokesman say Arctic Light Elementary was put into lockdown. The spokesman, Robinson Duffy, tells the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner that an armed man was spotted about 10:30 a.m. Friday.

It wasn't immediately clear what type of weapon the man had or where on the base he was spotted.
