Movies

"Ghosts of Mars," (R) starts Friday and shows nightly at 7:10 at the 20th Century Twin, with second shows Friday and Saturday at 9:20, and matinees at 2:10 and 4:20 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

"Captain Corelli's Mandolin," (R) starts Friday and shows nightly at 6:40 at Glacier Cinemas, with second shows Friday and Saturday at 9:10, and matinees at 1:40 and 4:10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Concerts

The St. Petersburg String Quartet, 8 p.m. Saturday, Juneau-Douglas High School Auditorium, advance tickets (in book stores) $20, $18 students and seniors, $2 more at the door.

Organ concert with Dorothy Allen, noon Friday in the atrium of the State Office Building, free.

Author

Alaska mystery writer Dana Stabenow, 7 p.m. Sunday, downtown Juneau library. The auhor of 17 mystery and science fiction novels and a columnist for Alaska magazine, Stabenow will talk about the importance of libraries and answer questions about her work.

Auditions

Juneau Student Symphony, auditions Saturday and Monday. Call Rick Trostel at 586-1915 to audition. A full orchestra with strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion seeks members of all ages.

Dance

Tango Night, demonstration, instruction and dance with teachers Fermnada and Guillermo, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, Juneau Elks Lodge, sponsored by Juneau Dance Unlimited and the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council. Cost: $20 a couple, $12 for individuals.

Juneau International Folk Dancers, 7:30 p.m. every Friday at Scottish Rite Temple, instruction and request dancing, all welcome, bring clean, softsoled shoes.

EXHIBITS

"Quilts of Alaska: A Textile Album of the Last Frontier" and "Looking Forward, Looking Back: An Alaska State Museum Centennial Exhibition," at the Alaska State Museum, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. daily.

"Dale DeArmond: Artist and Bibliophile," exhibit at Juneau-Douglas City Museum.
