Juneau-Douglas High School volleyball - The Crimson Bears host the Ketchikan Kings in a pair of season-opening Region V-Class 4A matches. Times are TBA, but the varsity matches are expected to start about 7 p.m. and JV matches about 5 p.m. each night at the Juneau-Douglas High School main gymnasium. If construction work is still in progress, the matches will move to the auxiliary gym.

Juneau Alpine Club - This week's trek is a kayak paddle from Amalga Harbor to Boy Scout Beach. Event starts at 10 a.m. at Amalga Harbor. Bring a kayak, lunch and safety gear (PFD) for this event that is suitable for families. Info: Trip leader Steve Kocsis, 790-3175.
Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Saturday hike - Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Dan Moller Trailhead on Pioneer Drive (just off Cordova Street in West Juneau, in the parking lot opposite house 3184 Pioneer) for a moderate, seven-mile hike along Dan Moller Trail with 2,000 feet elevation gain. Depending upon the weather, the group will go up the Saddle on the ridge. Wear waterproof hiking or rubber boots (something with a good gripping bottom, since the boardwalk may be slippery), wear warm layers of clothing, and bring plenty of food and water.
