ANCHORAGE - Gov. Sean Parnell says the state must operate within its means and he has directed budget work to focus on serving Alaskans with government money spent wisely.
Parnell said in a press release that he is committed to a "fiscally responsible" budget aiming for his top priorities - economic growth for the state and stronger families.
Parnell's office said department commissioners have been reviewing with the governor their current budgets, as well as expected issues and challenges. They also are exploring possible agency collaborations to meet the needs of Alaskans while saving the state money.
The proposed budget for the 2011 fiscal year is due to state lawmakers in mid-December.
